Gemini XII awaiting launch |
|
It is November 11, 1966. Beyond the Mercury Monument at the entrance to Complex 14, we see the
Atlas TLV (Target Launch Vehicle) that will soon carry the Agena target vehicle into orbit. This is Gemini
XII, the last Gemini mission. North of us, at Complex 19, Jim Lovell and Edwin E. "Buzz"
Aldrin, Jr. await launch in their Gemini spacecraft.
Although the Gemini spacecraft will rendezvous and dock
with the Agena target, planned docked maneuvers were cancelled due to a problem with the Agena target vehicle.
Even though this objective was not completed, the last mission of the Gemini Project was a success.
