It is June 22, 1959, and Pad A is a hub of activity as Vanguard SLV-6 prepares for launch. The vantage point for this photo was slightly northwest of Pad A. At the extreme left of the photo, we can see the Mobile Service Tower (MST) for Pad B. In the distance at the right of the photo is an MST at Complex 17.
Unfortunately, SLV-6 failed. There was a second stage malfunction, and the
satellite failed to achieve orbit.
