Complex 18 blockhouse outer
control area |

We are standing at the entrance to the outer control area. The doorway ahead
leads to the Pad A side of the control area, where checkout and launch
operations for Pad A were controlled. The large square box on the wall just to
the right of the door once held a phone. Blockhouse personnel used it as a link
to the outside world (family, etc.) when they were closed inside of the
blockhouse for launch operations. Many "I'm going to have to work some overtime
tonight" calls were made from that phone.
