Looking straight up through the
launch pedestal |

Standing underneath the launch pedestal and looking up through the exhaust opening, you get a view of
the Florida sky. In this picture, the sun appears just on the edge of the opening. I am told that if you stand
under the opening at the right time on a moonlit night, the view is incredible.
The exhaust opening is approximately 26 feet across. The
opening is encircled by a round pipe (most evident at the bottom). This is the "torus ring" - it contained several water
nozzles. These nozzles sprayed water during a launch to cool both the exhaust and the launch pedestal itself.
