Underneath the launch pedestal at Complex 34
Go back in time Looking straight up through the launch pedestal Zoom

Standing underneath the launch pedestal and looking up through the exhaust opening, you get a view of the Florida sky. In this picture, the sun appears just on the edge of the opening. I am told that if you stand under the opening at the right time on a moonlit night, the view is incredible.

The exhaust opening is approximately 26 feet across. The opening is encircled by a round pipe (most evident at the bottom). This is the "torus ring" - it contained several water nozzles. These nozzles sprayed water during a launch to cool both the exhaust and the launch pedestal itself.
